Construction continues dispite COVID19, Sierra Leone

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, construction of the Muloma Vocational Training Center Continues

Past and present events have created overwhelming obstacles for access to education in Sierra Leone. In the past several years, Programme for Children, with support from their US based non-profit, Schools for Salone, has built over 65 schools, countless latrines and water wells for children to access education.

In 2019, Mona Foundation committed to helping Programme for Children, in collaboration with Schools for Salone, build a four-classroom middle school, providing 150 children safe access to education. The objective was to improve access to education for middle school students in Njomborhun and several other neighboring villages who had to walk 8 miles each way to the nearest middle school, by building four-classroom school with a rainwater collection handwashing station and a latrine with three private stalls. The new middle school would start with approximately 150 students (85 girls and 65 boys) coming from the five surrounding primary schools.

In 2020, Mona Foundation committed to helping Programme for Children, in collaboration with Schools for Salone, expand the Muloma Vocational Technical Training Complex. This structure will be used to provide teacher certification training as well as vocational training.  Vocational training for 300 men, women and youth from several neighboring villages will include:

  • Weaving
  • Gara tie Dying
  • Needle Work/Embroidery
  • Catering
  • Hair Dressing
  • Food Production/Agriculture

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, construction on this building began on 12 April 2020 and has continued on schedule. Below are pictures of the progress made so far.
